Currently, Dr. Elizabeth Hammond is a consulting pathologist with Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She is a trustee of the Intermountain Healthcare Research Foundation and previously served on the Intermountain Healthcare Governing Board. She also holds the position of professor of Pathology and adjunct professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah, School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. She is the current principal pathology co-chair for the ASCO/CAP HER2 and ER testing Guidelines for Breast Cancer Testing and serves on the breast cancer biomarker panel of ASCO. She is a member of the National Quality Forum Scientific Advisory Panel for Cancer Specific Performance Measures.

Previously, Dr. Hammond was the president of the Utah Society of Pathologists; president of the medical staff at LDS Hospital; chair of the Department of Pathology at Urban Central Region Hospitals in Sandy, Utah; and vice chair for translation research and for biorepository management in the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group.  She also served as vice-chair of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Group Banking Committee and as a member of the Cancer Diagnosis Program (NCI) Cancer Biomarkers Advisory Panel.

As an active member of the College of American Pathologists, Dr. Hammond has served as a member of the CAP Board of Governors, as well as numerous councils and committees. Previously, Dr. Hammond chaired the CAP Cancer Committee and Education Committee, and led the formation of the CAP Pathology & Laboratory Quality Center, a forum for guideline development.  In addition to the CAP, Dr. Hammond is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology; The American Society of Transplantation, the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Society of Clinical Oncology; and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Dr. Hammond received her MD from the University of Utah, School of Medicine and went on to complete an internship with the University of Utah Health Science Center in Salt Lake City.  She completed her residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, and received fellowships from both the National Institutes of Health/Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden (tumor biology), and from the Massachusetts General Hospital (Immunopathology). She also served as Assistant Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School before returning to Utah to practice.  She is board-certified in Anatomic Pathology.  She is the author of 190 published manuscripts and 3 books.
